And speaking of Ohio State ... this past Monday the Los Angeles Times reported that a joint study on high school injuries conducted by researchers at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Center for Injury Research and Policy in the Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital, both in Columbus, will appear in the September issue of The American Journal of Sports Medicine.
Researchers collected sports-related injury data during the 2005–2007 academic years from 100 nationally representative United States high schools. Paying special attention to severe injuries, or injuries "that resulted in the loss of more than 21 days of sports participation," they discovered that football had the highest severe injury rate, followed by wrestling, girls’ basketball, and girls’ soccer. Altough the rate in all boys’ sports was higher than in all girls’ sports, "among directly comparable sports (soccer, basketball, and baseball/softball), girls sustained a higher severe injury rate."
You can read more about the study on The American Journal of Sports Medicine website.
